I don't know who coined the term Home Page, but I feel that's a very apt term for what a Home Page is actually intented to be. My Home Page is supposed to tell you everything about 'me' at my 'home', or in other words my true self. Yes, that's what I also aspire to achieve through my home page. But I feel, to know a person properly you should also know about his world, not only his home. That's why I call my home page my Home & the World.

Home is a place, a space or a domain where a person is truest to his own identity, closest to his own self, least pretentious and hypocritical and most creative. Home is somewhere where he doesn’t have to think of his reputation, image or credentials. It’s somewhere he doesn’t have to think what others are saying or thinking about him. Home is a place where he literally feels ‘at home’, isolated, insulated and secluded from everything else.

Complimenting the Home, World is a place or space or domain where a person is not isolated or insulated from anything. He is a part of everything. He is one of the innumerable people around him. This is the place of his work, his growth and his reputation. He can’t be ignorant to what’s happening around him. He has to compromise, accommodate and adjust, within the limits of his ethics and personality off course, which can give rise to contradictions within him. Nevertheless, both Home and World are inseparable aspects of anyone’s life. It’s the effective balance between the Home and the World, that makes a man successful, happy and content. It’s a person’s behavior at Home and World that becomes his identity or rather personality.

Tagore’s Ghare Baire is all about the contradictions of Home and the World. I personally feel that our entire life can be broadly categorized into these two broad categories, Home and World. I need both for my survival. I might like a certain kind of music and hate everything else. But I can’t create my own music at home. I’ve to get it from the World. In the same way if I’m a writer I can’t write only for me. I’ve to write for the World outside me and that’s where I’ll get the recognition.

There can be various interpretations of Home and the World. I’ve stuck to a very simple definition. Home is myself, my family and my friends. World is everything else, from where I derive everything for my survival and living. It’s the art and culture, the politics, the technology, the growth, the people.... everything around me. My life, rather everyone's life is inseparable from each of these things. After several introspections, I've finally come up with the following categories for World for each of which I've tried to put forward my favorites, viwes and comments. I hope all these will bring out my true self to anyone who would take the pains to go throgh my site.

Art & Culture

Books, Movies & Music: This category is the closest to my heart. I feel the true identify of any country or race lies in her culture. I'd love to read all the books, listen to all the music and watch all the movies in the world. There's nothing more endearing to me than these. Here I'll try to present my observations, comments & ideologies about books, movies and music of India (which I'd refer to as home) and the world (in geographical terms).

Religion & Festivals

This is something that's very unique to India, which is often designated in the west as the land of religions and festivals. Indeed India has some of the most fascinating socio-cultural-religious festivals in the world. I've been always fascinated by the diversity and grandeur of the festivals of our country.

Leisure & Passion

Travel & Entertainment: Travel is one of the best forms of leisure to me. Nothing can be more educative than travel. Perhaps India offers the maximum diversity to any traveller. From the magnificient Himalayas to the evergreen & deciduous forests, extensive coastline, deserts, backwaters, lagoons & lakes, lush green hillocks, historical places, temples & palaces of varied styles of architecture, exotic folk dances, hugely diversified cuisine - India offers everything on the platter. To me travelling in India is one of the most enriching things in life. Travel is not only a passion for me, but also can provide lot of fun and entertainment.

Past & Present

History & Current Affairs: History is the best teacher. That's why it's a very important part of any country or race. History and culture are interwined to each other. It's the only thing that leads us to understand a country and her people. At the same time everyone should be also aware of the current affairs. Progressing and prospering in the present, but retaining the age-old traditions & cultures is something that everyone should do. My endeavour has been always to do so.

Foundations of Growth

Technology, Infrastructure, Health & Education: I consider these four things as the only foundations of growth. There's nothing else that is responsible for the prosperity of any country. Technology & Infrastructures build the nation and Health & Education build the people. Food & shelters, power etc, anything else that you can think about, are non-issue once these four pillars are strong.

People & Prosperity

People, Politics & Economy: This is a very important category. People and politics are inseparable things. Also the economy of the country is nothing but the prosperity of her people. So I've clubbed people, politics & economy under one head.

Apart from these I've also tried to capture my personal favorites and some topics related to my profession. Hope you'd enjoy going through my site.

I'd appreciate if you give me your feedback.

Sudipto
